GOTR Picklefest brings the kids · Oct 17
Girls on the Run of Montgomery County runs its second annual Picklefest on Saturday, October 17 at Dill Dinkers North Bethesda, with the two best tournament ideas we have seen all year: an Adult/Child King of the Court, and a clinic for people who have never held a paddle. Proceeds support their Scholarship Fund, which helps over 1,000 of the 4,000+ girls they serve each year. Registration closes October 14; full feature next Sunday. Put it on the calendar.
Coach Sam's Next Gen Academy · ages 8-16
Issue 8 introduced Coach Sam Morris and promised more. Here it is: Next Gen Pickleball Academy, his structured pathway for young players in Montgomery County. Kids are grouped by color level, Red through Yellow Ball, so beginners are comfortable and developing competitors get real challenges, all built on what Sam calls Progress with EASE: Ethics, Attitude, Skills, Excellence. They learn serves and rallies, and also how to talk to a partner and treat a mistake as part of getting better. First-timers get a free evaluation at nextgenpbacademy.com.

Josh B. and The Bowie Pickleball Club put Foxhill on the map
A week ago, Foxhill Park in Bowie was an empty page. Then founding member Josh B. filled it out, and his crew came in behind him: 13 ratings this week, the most of any court in the register, plus five community-verified local-knowledge notes. Where the nets live (foldable, in the black box, please return them), when play runs (daily, after sunset), even the etiquette ("1 to 2 courts are always open for tennis players and the rest are left for pickleball"). Prince George's County went from the quietest corner of the map to home of its best-documented court, and one crew did it in a week. "Great court really! Awesome community!" reads one rating. We believe it. See their handiwork.
The register got corrected. That's the design.
The YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase listing began life as a Nextdoor tip: pickleball "in the back," details unknown. This week a player who has actually played there filed four corrections in forty minutes. Outdoor, not indoor. Six dedicated courts. $50 a month for pickleball-only access, $120 for full membership. The record now says exactly that. No parks database knows the back courts of a YMCA; somebody who plays there does. Every court page has a correction button, and fixes ship same day.
The court register covers the where. Groups & Crews is starting to cover the who. Across the DMV there are awesome pockets of players who show up at the same courts, week after week: the crews, ladders, and networks that make the game worth showing up for. If you already have one, you know. If you're new, finding them has always been the hard part, and that's exactly what this page fixes: it tells newcomers where they'll actually be able to pick up games, and who they'll find when they get there.
The Bowie Pickleball Club above? Listed there first. Listings are free, they never affect ratings, and every crew that joins makes the next newcomer's first game easier to find. dmvpickle.org/groups
Playing hooky this afternoon? Pickleball for Parkinson's runs noon to 7 today at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg. $55 adults, $25 students, proceeds to the SPEAK OUT! speech therapy program. Details on the board.
The Founding Wall: two more names since last Sunday, 11 of 20 claimed, nine remain. Your name, numbered, permanent.
KNOW SOMEONE WHO PLAYS? Forward them this issue. 3 things, 2 updates, 1 feature, every Sunday. That's the whole pitch.
FORWARD THIS ISSUE →House rules committee, session thirteen: a motion to count balls clipping the neighbor's oak as "living lets" passed 3 to 0, the oak abstaining. The oak remains undefeated this fall.
