Nets already up: just bring a paddle.
The DMV's dirty secret is that most "pickleball courts" are tennis courts with extra lines and no net your ball will respect. If you don't own a portable net (most beginners don't), these 43 free locations have permanent or provided nets: walk up, warm up, play. This is the list to send someone who says "I've been wanting to try pickleball."
